Terms of Service

Last updated: May 29, 2026

Thanks for considering working with me. These terms explain how we work together. By booking a call, purchasing a session or package, or using this website, you agree to them. If anything here is unclear, email me at john@cosgrove.work before booking.

1. Who we are

These terms are an agreement between you and John Cosgrove, a sole proprietor based in North Carolina who offers budget and money coaching (referred to here as "we," "us," or "I").

2. What coaching is, and what it isn't

I provide general budgeting and money-management coaching and education to help you set goals, build a budget, and develop money habits.

Coaching is educational and informational only. It is not financial, investment, tax, accounting, or legal advice, and I am not acting as your financial advisor, fiduciary, broker, accountant, or attorney. I do not sell financial products or recommend specific investments. For advice specific to your situation, please consult a licensed professional. You are always responsible for your own financial decisions and for how you act on what we discuss.

3. No guarantee of results

Your results depend on your circumstances and the actions you choose to take. I cannot and do not guarantee any specific financial outcome, such as a particular amount saved, debt paid off, or income earned. Coaching only works when you apply it, and what you do after our sessions is up to you.

4. Booking, fees, and payment

Current rates are shown on the website and may change over time. Payments are processed securely through Stripe; by paying, you also agree to Stripe's terms. Fees are due at the time of booking or as otherwise agreed.

5. Rescheduling and cancellations

Life happens. If you need to reschedule, please give at least 24 hours' notice and we'll find a new time at no charge. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice, or missed without notice ("no-shows"), may be counted as delivered and charged in full. Monthly coaching can be cancelled at any time before your next billing date and will not renew after that.

6. Refunds

Because coaching is a personal service delivered through my time and expertise, payments are for the services I provide, not for any particular result.

  • Services not yet provided: if you have paid in advance for sessions you have not used, you can cancel and receive a refund for the unused, undelivered portion (subject to the cancellation notice above).
  • Services already provided: sessions and coaching that have already taken place are non-refundable.
  • Outcomes: because I do not guarantee results, refunds are not available on the basis of outcomes, for example if we stop working together or if the plan is not followed.

If you ever feel something wasn't right, email me. I want you to be glad you worked with me, and I'll always talk it through.

7. Your responsibilities

To get the most from coaching, you agree to provide accurate information about your situation and to make your own decisions in good faith. Any worksheets, guides, or other materials I personally create and share with you are for your own personal use and remain my intellectual property. Any third-party tools or apps I recommend (for example, budgeting software such as YNAB) belong to their respective owners and are governed by their own terms, not these.

8. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, I am not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential losses arising from the coaching or this website, and my total liability for any claim will not exceed the amount you paid for the services giving rise to it. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or waives any rights you have under North Carolina consumer-protection law, including the Unfair and Deceptive Trade Practices Act (N.C. Gen. Stat. § 75-1.1).

9. Changes to these terms

I may update these terms from time to time. The "last updated" date above shows the current version, and continued use of the service means you accept the latest version.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in North Carolina.
